Friday, February 23

  • Join President Struppa for the State of the University address highlighting Chapman’s most significant recent accomplishments, and his plans for our future growth and success as he shares the next five years of the strategic plan.

    Location: Marybelle and Sebastian P. Musco Center for the Arts

Afternoon Events

  • Join President Struppa, Dean Margaret Grogan, Trustee Donna Ford Attallah ’61, and Chapman family members for a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the newly renovated Reeves Hall, one of the historic buildings on campus and home of the Donna Ford Attallah College of Educational Studies. Tours of Reeves Hall will include opportunities to experience the new Learning Labs (designed for developing and researching innovative educational environments) and to learn more about the undergraduate and graduate programs offered in the Attallah College.

  • Get an insider peek of Chapman's newest housing facility. Come view the different room layouts, facilities that are available for you starting Fall 2018, and much more.

    Guided tours offered every 30 minutes starting at 12:30 p.m. with the final tour starting at 4 p.m.

  • Chapman University’s Hilbert Museum of California Art houses a superlative collection focusing on the “California Scene” painting movement from the 1920’s to the 1970’s. Chapman is proud to host the Hilbert Collection in the only museum of its kind in the nation. Shuttle buses will be on hand to take guests from the State of the University Address in Memorial Hall to the Museum, which is located just across from Ruby’s and the train station.

Next Steps for Seniors and Chappy Hour

  • Learn tips to help you optimize your job search strategy, increase your chances of securing an interview, and successfully transition into the workplace. Find out more about how to effectively navigate your career and the resources that will be available to you as a Chapman alumni.

  • Get your questions answered on when and what to look for in a graduate program. Learn how to develop an effective timeline for applying to graduate school including how to research graduate programs, what to look for, what questions to ask, and how to be a top contender.

  • Bring your parent (or a friend) to join the Office of Parent Engagement and the Alumni Association for a Chappy Hour gathering! You will have the opportunity to connect with Chapman’s alumni services during a small reception with drinks and small bites.

Morning Events

  • Start your day with coffee and a light breakfast as you connect with leaders from Chapman’s ten schools and colleges.

  • Join us for a welcome and Keynote Address from Chapman's President, Daniele C. Struppa

  • Stop by our tables and learn about our innovative 4+1 degree programs and meet with graduate program representatives from the schools and colleges.

  • Various departments and vendors will come together to create a unique shopping experience for all things graduation and commencement related.

  • Jerry Price, Ph.D., dean of students and vice president for student affairs
    The freshman experience is a unique and exciting time in your life. Learn how to best navigate your first year at Chapman and the resources available to help you be a successful student.

  • Roberto Coronel, director of academic advising
    Even as sophomores, students should be planning ahead for graduation. Learn how you can effectively stay on track and set yourself up to graduate on time.

  • Susan Chang, assistant director of career education
    This session will highlight critical factors in today’s job market, give you the tools to ensure you are developing key relationships to help you network in the future.

  • Brady Hogan, director of alumni engagement
    Chapman’s Alumni Association offers job placement assistance, educational and social programs, and a Chapman connection for life. Find out about the opportunities you can take advantage of now, plus assistance you can receive after graduation.

  • Jason Keller, Ph.D., assistant professor of biological sciences, Schmid College of Science and Technology
    Dr. Keller is an ecologist broadly interested in the flow of carbon and nutrients through ecosystems. Much of his work explores how ecosystems will respond to ongoing global change. Come learn more about his research.

Session Two

    Chapman boasts an education that develops students as global citizens and encourages all students to study abroad for an academic year, semester, summer, or interterm. Students interested in study abroad should begin their planning process early. Learn from our experts what you should be doing to properly prepare for an international experience.

  • Heidi Swanson, internship coordinator
    Students use internships as a gateway to a promising future. Gain insight on how you can optimize Chapman’s resources to secure the internship of your dreams!

  • Program Advisers are assigned by each academic program to ensure you have the required courses to earn your degree(s). Learn from our panel of program advisers how and when you should utilize them.

  • Jo Bandy, executive director of career and professional development, and Alumni Panel
    Gain valuable insight on attaining a job post-graduation from Chapman alumni who have made the jump from college to the working world.

  • Brian Alters, Ph.D., FAAAS, Attallah College of Educational Studies
    Buckle up for a fun romp through Walt Disney's world of fantasy and Charles Darwin's reality of nature: explore their creations and their beliefs, and delve into some profound ideas underpinning our origins and our happiness.

    With an ever-growing student population, housing is a hot topic. Find out what opportunities you should be exploring as a sophomore and what this timeline should look like.

  • If you are interested in pursuing a graduate degree, or a fellowship or scholar program after graduation, it is important for you to start preparing as early as junior year. Learn some of the crucial steps to take in this important process.

  • Brittany Pacheco, associate director of academic events
    Learn about Chapman’s Commencement ceremonies and get tips on making this a smooth and stress-free day.

  • Richard Bausch and James P. Blaylock, professors of English and creative writing, Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences
    Authors of Peace and Living in the Weather of the World (Richard Bausch), and the Langdon St. Ives series and pioneer of Steampunk (James P. Blaylock) will read short excerpts from their latest books and discuss the ways writers build vibrant characters and convey them on the page so they come alive in readers' minds.

Afternoon Events

  • Enjoy lunch while touring an extensive collection of previously unpublished war letters from every American conflict.

  • Join Dean Bob Bassett for a workshop as parents experience what it is like to be a student in the film division at Dodge College. Dodge College parents will collaborate to conceptualize and direct a 30-second video from start to finish using industry-standard equipment. To accommodate the editing process, the workshop will conclude with a cocktail reception and dinner before the screening on the film in the stunning Folino Theater.

    *Dinner will be provided for those who attend the full workshop from start (1:30 p.m.) to finish (8 p.m.)

  • Come to Kennedy Hall, home of the Fowler School of Law, to learn from current students and administrators about law school admissions, financial aid, and career services. Light appetizers provided.

  • This class explores the findings of the Chapman University Survey of American Fears, an annual survey of what Americans fear the most. We will discuss how the survey was collected, how students were involved in the project, and some of the most surprising key findings from this project about how our fears impact life.

  • Come learn about the remarkable solutions Schmid students have developed to address some of our planet's greatest challenges. By working together in multidisciplinary teams from their first day on campus, students in our innovative Grand Challenges Initiative gain a deep understanding of how to solve problems using science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The results showcased here illustrate how engaged students, who take ownership of their education, can achieve remarkable results.

  • Come meet and join College of Performing Arts (CoPA) Dean, Giulio Ongaro, Ph.D., as he gives an overview of the College, highlighting the 10-Year Anniversary of CoPA, various programs and degrees offered across all 3 disciplines Music, Theatre, and Dance. Dean Ongaro will also discuss different partnerships CoPA has with outside organizations and the current landscape of the performing arts and how it relates to the students in CoPA.
